Samascott Orchards for the very best pick your own fruit and veg is also bike-rideable but you’ll likely want your car to bring back all the luscious strawberries and peaches you harvest. Also the Albany-Hudson Electric Trail, the bike path connecting Albany and Hudson, is two blocks away.

Big shopping … East Greenbush is about 25 minutes north and it’s where you’ll find Walmart, Target, Staples, Home Depot, Starbucks (!), Regal Cinemas, Home Goods, Michael’s, etc.

Albany … 35 minutes north to Whole Foods, Trader Joes, and the Colonie mall. Also about 35 minutes to Albany International Airport.

Hudson … 25 minutes to the Amtrak station (2 hours to Manhattan right along the river) and the City of Hudson with its restaurants, boutiques, antique stores, galleries and performance venues. And Olana, the home of Hudson River School painter Frederic Church, with its lovely grounds, walking paths, and views over the Hudson River.

In the area … All less than an hour away …The charming village of Chatham with its eateries, Crandell Theater (home to the Columbia County Film Festival), and boutiques. The Bartlett House Ghent, a glorious cafe with exceptional home made baked goods and dining (same owners as the fabulous Maker Hotel in Hudson). Old Chatham featuring the Old Chatham Country Store & Cafe which offers the best chocolate cake in the area. Great Barrington, MA, with shopping, dining, entertainment, and Guido’s, a fantastic gourmet food store. The Berkshire corridor with Stockbridge, Lenox, Pittsfield, Williamstown, and North Adams: Gateway to Tanglewood, Jacob’s Pillow, Williamstown Theatre Festival, and Mass MOCA. The Columbia Land Conservancy manages a number of nature sites in the area for walking, fishing, and pure pleasure.
